CultureTree Ltd (managers of the Yoruba Heritage Trails) takes the privacy of all its customers and users seriously. We strive to take great care with any personal information you share with us. We aim to be clear when we collect your data and not do anything with it you wouldn’t reasonably expect. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, manage, use and store your personal information. 

UK Privacy Policy

We care about your information and appreciate and value the trust you place in us to handle your information fairly and carefully. If you are under the age of 18, please make sure your parent or legal guardian (‘Your Adult’) reads this Privacy Policy and get them to explain anything you don’t understand. This Privacy Policy describes the basis on which we will process any personal data that we collect from you and Your Adult or that you or Your Adult provides to us when you use our website. 

The Site is offered by CultureTree Ltd. (collectively, “we”, “us” and “our”) and we will be the data controller in respect of any of Your Information (see Section 2 below) that you submit to us or that we collect from you when you use our Site. We are a company registered in England with registered no. 09381858. 

By visiting and using a Site, you are consenting to us gathering and processing your personal data in accordance with this Privacy Policy. 

What is Personal Information?

Personal information can be any data relating to a living identifiable person. The sort of personal information we collect about you may include your name, mailing address, home telephone number, mobile telephone number and e-mail address. 

Why do we need Personal Information?

In general, we use your personal information in order to deliver services and support to you. We may use your personal information to inform you about forthcoming events, news and offers or to process a payment or donation. 

We may also use your personal information to communicate with you, for record keeping purposes, and in aggregate (and therefore anonymously) for market research purposes, to track activity on our website, to publish trends or to improve usefulness and content.

We may charge you a small fee to process your request to receive details of Your Information that we process.  The fee we charge will not exceed any limit set by applicable law. 


Information You Provide 

We collect various personal information about you which may include your name, email, address, date of birth, telephone number, your preferences and interests, or other information you provide to us or grant us access to (“Your Information”) when you communicate with us, or take part in interactive games, features or competitions. We may also collect information that you enter on our Site, such as photographs, video images or other content that you may upload to the Site (“User-Generated Content or “UGC”). 

Automatic Information Collection 

We may use a variety of technologies that collect information about how the Site is accessed and used (“Usage Information”).  Usage Information may consist of your internet browser type, operating system, the webpages you viewed, the time you viewed them, and what webpages you looked at before viewing the current page so that we get a better idea of how our users interact with our Site and can then tailor and improve them accordingly. Usage Information generally can’t be linked to you individually, but if we can link it to you then we treat it as Your Information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. 

We may also automatically collect your IP address or other unique identifier for the computer, mobile device, technology or other device (collectively, “Device”) you use to access the Site. A unique identifier is a number that is automatically assigned to your Device when you access a web site or its servers, and our computers identify your Device by this number (“Device Identifier”). Some mobile service providers may also provide us with the physical location of the Device used to access the Site.

If you are under the age of 18, and you wish to provide us with Your Information for any purpose, such as to participate in a promotion or competition, you must read this Privacy Policy with Your Adult and may not provide Your Information without obtaining Your Adult’s prior consent.  If we are notified or otherwise learn that a person under the age of 18 has submitted personal data to us through our Site other than under the conditions set forth above, we will delete such personal data. 


We will use Your Information collected through the Site to: (1) allow you to participate in the features we offer on the Site; (2) upload your UGC; (3) provide you with information that you request or agree to receive; (4) improve the Site and for internal business purposes; (5) contact you with regard to your use of the Site, and any changes to our policies; (6) tailor our content, advertisements and offers; and (7) fulfil other purposes disclosed at the time you provide Your Information or otherwise where we have a legal justification to do so.

When You Agree To Have Your Information Shared 

While on our Site, you may have the opportunity to opt-in to receive information and/or marketing offers from someone else or to otherwise consent to the sharing of Your Information with a third party. If you agree to have Your Information shared, Your Information will be disclosed to the third party and will be subject to the privacy policy and business practices of that third party. You also may specifically request, sometimes through your use of an interactive feature, a widget or an application, that we share Your Information with a third party and we will typically do so under those circumstances.  In addition, if you choose to register for a promotion, such as a competition, prize draw or contest, Your Information may be disclosed to third parties for purposes of the administration of such promotion. 

 Your Information That You Disclose Publicly on the Site 

You may submit UGC to the Site.  Any such UGC may be disclosed publicly.  This Privacy Policy does not apply to third party uses of any UGC after it is displayed on the Site. 

 Third Parties Providing Services on Our Behalf 

We may engage third parties to perform functions on our behalf, such as hosting or operating our Site, sending e-mail communications, and data analysis. We may share Your Information with third parties in order for them to provide content or otherwise perform services for us, and we will require such parties to maintain appropriate security to protect such data from unauthorized access or processing. 

 Affiliate Sharing and Business Transfers 

We may share Your Information with other entities affiliated with us for internal reasons, primarily for business and operational purposes.  We may also share Your Information with the buyers of all or part of our business or with any business we merge with or acquire. 

 Legal Protections and Other Disclosures 

We may transfer and disclose information, including Your Information, Usage Information, UGC and Device Identifier (including IP address), to third parties: when required by law or when we believe in good faith that we are legally required to do so; at the request of governmental authorities conducting an investigation; to verify or enforce the Site’s Terms and Conditions or other applicable policies; to respond to an emergency; or otherwise to protect the rights, property, safety, or security of third parties, visitors to the Site or the public. Pursuant to valid requests by law enforcement agencies, we may also use Device Identifiers to identify users, and may do so in cooperation with copyright owners, Internet service providers, wireless service providers or law enforcement agencies, at our discretion. Such disclosures may be carried out without notice to you. 


The Site may contain links that will direct you to other websites or services that are operated and controlled by third parties. This includes links from advertisers, sponsors and partners that may use our logo(s) as part of a co-branding agreement. We have no control over these third parties, and your use of their websites and features are subject to their privacy policies.  We are not responsible for the privacy practices or business practices of any third party web site.  In addition, we may place our widgets or other features on certain third party web sites.  When we do so, any personal data that we obtain about you will be subject to this Privacy Policy. 


Your Information may be transferred to, and stored in the UK or anywhere in the world. In addition, another of our service providers may provide data processing services on our behalf. These companies may be located in, or use IT equipment located in, countries outside of the European Economic Area where the privacy laws may not provide an equivalent level of protection to those in your home country. Where this is the case, we will take steps to ensure that Your Information receives an equivalent level of protection. Your Information may be processed in the UK and other locations globally, including the United States where it may be subject to access requests from governments, courts or law enforcement in the United States.  By using the Site, and providing us with any information, you consent to the international transfer, storing and processing of Your Information. 


We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to help protect and secure Your Information. However, no electronic data transmission or storage of information can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. We will retain Your Information for as long as is necessary to provide any services to you or for a reasonable period or as long as the law otherwise permits.


Except to the extent limited by applicable law, we reserve the right to change the terms of this Privacy Policy at any time, by prominently posting notice of the amendment on the Site. The changes will become effective fourteen days after posting and will apply to all Your Information. If we make any changes to this Privacy Policy that materially impact the way that we collect, process or store your personal data, we will, to the extent that we have your email address, notify you by email.
