Genesis is a multidisciplinary artist and designer who explores identity and culture, through its juxtaposition with an individual’s lived experience in the global north. She has a strong interest in growth and decaying processes found in natural materials which she utilizes to express physical realities within a surrealist conceptual framework.
With a current focus on ceramics, she aims to push the boundaries of cultural understanding by using internationally understood references; such as the five senses to challenge widespread ideas of ‘the truth’ in a perceived reality. Mixed Media (painting, sculpture, photography)
Genesis grew up with a passion for making stuff which was evident through her constant drawing and regular use of building with blocks. As she developed, she studied architecture as an undergraduate and a Designer Maker for her MA.
Genesis started a small business in 2021, creating homeware pieces from Jesmonite, as well as exploring social norms and politics through painting. This solidified her passion and she decided to be practicing as a conceptual artist. She draws inspiration from a plethora of sources; like patterns found in natural processes, surrealism, African history, identity and more
